The exhibition of four Ghanaian artist-academics, who live and work in Kumasi, Odic Organisms invokes the power of fiction, constructing a framework within which subjects, things, and circumstances are perceived as belonging to a shared world. The artists in the exhibition respond to this obligation to fictionalize through narrative, relational, performative, and pictorial forms as well as the manipulation of a wide range of fabrics to create objects and spatial installations.

a 2 minute read…

Dorothy Akpene Amenuke explores the multi-dimensionality of space consumption by
questioning territorial power plays within and without cultural settings and relationships. Used
clothes donated by family and friends deconstruct and reconstitute spaces of interaction and
negotiation.
Kwabena Afriyie Poku utilizes human movement as a potent means of expression that affords
the ability to relive and tell stories and experiences. Through gestures, postures, and expressions
of kata movements, he traces memories of stories and experiences of social, cultural, and
intellectual connections.
Kwame Opoku-Bonsu explores memory and fiction with his objects gleaned from artisanal
practices and rituals in Kumasi as sculptures, dummies, and props in dioramas. Through this, he
hopes to engage sculpture and events in memory editing with hints of familiarity.
Mantey Jectey-Nyarko uses masks made from polymer resin and various materials and multiple
colours on mini canvases to explore ideas about nature, relationships, acculturation and taste as a
connection between the past and the present for engagement with the sustainability of society.
